Personal Profile

Your personal profile provides you with an opportunity to share basic information about yourself, your commute, travel needs and personal preferences.
  • Complete the registration form
The form requires you to provide your first and last name, to create a user name and password, and to provide home address and work address locations and contact information.  Then you just simply hit the submit button.
 
Important:  Only your username, home town/state, and work town/state will automatically appear on your personal profile.  We have set up the website to automatically exclude exact numeric addresses from your home and work locations.  This has been done to provide you with a greater degree of privacy and security.  You should only provide exact address information to other members when you feel completely comfortable with them.
 
We also want you to know that we will never knowingly reveal or share your personal contact information with other members or outside commercial marketing firms.   
  • Receive approval e-mail from RideWise
In order to protect your security and the website from fictitious users and tampering, we have instituted a  e-mail confirmation policy for all users.  We know this policy interferes with your immediate enjoyment of the website, but this added security step will provide you and future website users with another layer of protection.
  • Profile
When you log in for the first time, you will be asked to complete your profile using the hyperlink on the right side of the screen.  After clicking the hyperlink, a profile form will appear for you to complete.  Please fill in the form and hit the submit button.   
 
To provide an extra layer of protection you may also want to create a new e-mail account at Yahoo, Google, Hotmail or MSN to receive your Stars-for-Cars email from other members.  
  • Matches 
The website will immediately inform you of any carpool matches. If you are interested in pursuing an opportunity, you can use the IntroLetter feature, under the Contact User tab in the dashboard, to contact a member.
 
  • Sending and receiving IntroLetters 
When you wish to contact a member about a possible carpool match, please use the IntroLetter feature under the Contact User tab on the profile.  The IntroLetter is a simple form letter indicating your interest in discussing a possible carpool via e-mail.  The benefit of this arrangement is that the receivers' e-mail address is hidden from the sender.
 
  • Navigating Stars-For-Cars  
Inbox - this section has all your IntroLetters, e-mails and notices from RideWise staff.
Dashboard - this section allows you to review your current matches, view other profiles and all existing carpools in the Stars-For-Cars program. 
Contact details - this section allows you to change your password, e-mail and contact information to keep it current.
Edit profile - this section allows you to update your carpool status, background info and personal preferences. 
 
    • Password/user name recovery 
    Try to keep your password confidential.  In the event that you forget your password, the Stars-For-Cars website has a password and user name recovery feature.  If you forget, simply type in your correct e-mail address and a new password will be sent to your registered e-mail account.  If you have any other technical problems, notify RideWise at starsforcars@ridewise.org.
    • Logging out 
    Please remember to log out after every session and close your Internet browser.  This will keep others from tampering with your account information.
