John Burke, a Special Needs Teacher at North Plainfield High School, has had RideWise provide travel training in his classroom since 2019, teaching students valuable life skills they will utilize.
In December 2022, 14 of John’s students participated in a travel training trip from North Plainfield to the Bridgewater Commons Mall using the Somerset County CAT-2R and NJ TRANSIT 114 buses. The training covered all aspects of traveling, from paying the fares, making connections to other buses, reading schedules, identifying information on NJ TRANSIT bus signs, and pedestrian safety.
The students didn’t stop there. In February 2023, John invited RideWise to provide in-classroom training on how to use Uber to complement the transit training.
The students learned how to download the ride-hailing app, how to create an account, how to schedule a ride, how to identify their correct vehicle, how to rate trips, and how to tip. The students also role-played using stools standing in for vehicle seats. It was a fun classroom experience for the students, and they all came away knowing how Uber could provide another travel option.
