Maria Marnell has partnered with RideWise for the last 9 years, arranging monthly transportation workshops for social service clients with mobility director, Linda Rapacki.
Maria is the Adult Programs and Services Lead Instructor for Hunterdon County Educational Services Commission, where she provides job readiness instruction for Somerset County social service clients who attend the Work First New Jersey 28-day program.
Maria provides exceptional education to hundreds of individuals who are looking for work. Clients in the 28-day program often don’t have a personal vehicle and must rely on public transit for job opportunities or training. The transit orientation and travel instruction Maria arranges through RideWise helps clients navigate the public
buses, and bus tickets are distributed to clients who attend the training to use towards a future travel destination.
“A large percentage of the clients coming through the WorkFirst New Jersey program are transportation-dependent, requiring education on public transit. I make sure those individuals get connected to RideWise as early as possible to leverage their job-seeking opportunities,” said Marnell.
Having a sustainable and reliable means of transportation can make all the difference for clients who are participating in the Work First NJ program.
In addition to hosting transportation workshops for clients, Maria referred the very first BikeConnect client, Kevin Gray, to RideWise in July 2021 for a refurbished bicycle so he had a way to get to and from his new job.
