April is Distracted Driving Awareness month. Distracted driving is any activity that diverts attention from safe driving such as eating, drinking, talking, texting, playing with the radio, etc. It was the leading cause of fatal motor vehicle crashes in 2016, surpassing speeding and driving while intoxicated . Law enforcement officers in communities throughout Somerset County will be cracking down on distracted driving as part of New Jersey’s campaign, UDrive. UText. UPay. The Network of Employers for Traffic Safety (NETS) provides a variety of campaign materials that remind us of the risks of driving while distracted. I encourage you to share these materials with family, friends, co-workers and employees. The materials include fact sheets, pledge cards, and social media/e-mail graphics that can be downloaded at www.trafficsafety.org
