BikeWise is an on-bike course designed to help individuals become more knowledgeable and skilled cyclists.
The course covers cyclists’ rights, rules of the road, and basic safety information including what you should carry with you and how to be seen while riding. The course is taught by an instructor certified by the League of American Cyclists.
BikeWise includes several bike handling exercises to help cyclists improve their overall skills as well as instruction on hand signals, riding with traffic, and effective starting, stopping and turning technique. The course also includes how to fix a flat, properly fit a bike helmet and “quick checks” to do every time you get on your bike.
The course is open to all ages and abilities. To participate, cyclists need a bike in working shape and must wear a helmet. Participants under 18 should be accompanied by an adult or guardian. Scheduled courses are offered during the late spring, summer and early fall. It can also be offered on-site for communities, schools, scouting groups or to businesses and civic groups.
