BikeSmart courses are designed to help individuals become more knowledgeable, skilled and safer cyclists.
The courses cover cyclists’ rights, rules of the road, and basic safety information including what you should carry with you and how to be seen while riding. The course is taught by an instructor certified by the League of American Cyclists.
BikeSmart includes several bike handling exercises to help cyclists improve their overall skills as well as instruction on hand signals, riding with traffic, and effective starting, stopping and turning technique. Courses also includes how to fix a flat, properly fit a bike helmet and “quick checks” to do every time you get on your bike.
Courses are open to all ages and abilities. To participate, cyclists need a bike in working shape and must wear a helmet. Participants under 16 must be accompanied by an adult or guardian.
