While school may be out for the summer, RideWise is still teaching children how to be safe while walking and biking! Last month, Caty Whalen, RideWise’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Manager, led a Safety Town and bike safety presentation at Plainfield YMCA, part of the Greater Somerset County YMCA network.
As part of the YMCA summer camp’s Safety Day, Caty taught 26 campers about pedestrian safety, demonstrating safe behavior such as how to use the crosswalk, what to do at a traffic light, and how to cross the street safely. Campers also learned the basics of bike safety. Plainfield police officers and firefighters gave additional presentations at the event.
