To help measure the effectiveness of a Safe Routes to School program, schools can collect data in the form of a School Travel Tally.
School Travel Tallies look at how students travel to and from school, and can be used to pinpoint areas of improvement in pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure around school zones. School Travel Tallies are often mandatory in applying for grants to fund improvements.
A school travel tally can be completed in just two or three minutes. To see how quick and easy the process can be, watch our Student Travel Tally training video, created with the Voorhees Transportation Center at Rutgers University.
